Mary Selstead

Secretary/Treasurer

Mary received her Bachelor of Science from Washington State University and her Master of Arts in Teaching English Language Learners from Western Governor’s University. After serving as an educator in various capacities for many years, Mary focused on teaching adult English Language Learners. Over the past 10 years, she has instructed adult students in the English as a Second Language Program at Pierce College Ft. Steilacoom and other local institutions.

Since that time, her passion remains helping students acquire the language skills needed to achieve their goals. In 2019, Mary added the role of ESL Mentor/Transition Specialist to her educator role at Pierce College. In this capacity, she provides individual guidance regarding academic and career pathways to ESL students who transition on to college level courses while pursuing a degree or vocational training.

As an immigrant’s daughter, Mary understands and empathizes with immigrants requiring assistance to reach their full potential. In her free time, Mary enjoys experiencing the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest with her family, learning about other cultures from around the world, and cheering for her alma mater – the Washington State University Cougars.
